  • Will I receive anything for participating in this study?

  • Yes. If you are randomized into a group, you will receive up to $125.00 in gift cards for completing study visits over the year that you are enrolled in the CHAMPS study.
  • How do I know if I am eligible to participate in the study?

  • Call the University of Tennessee at (901) 448-HLTH (4584) and speak to a study representative. You may also contact us by email at champsstudy@uthsc.edu.
  • How will I benefit from being a part of the CHAMPS study?

  • If you are enrolled and randomized to a CHAMPS group, you will receive professional support that may help you lose weight.
  • May my friend or family enroll in this study?

  • Please feel free to tell others about the CHAMPS study. They may qualify for participation, but only one person per household is eligible for CHAMPS.
  • Where do I go for my study visits?

  • Study clinic visits are located at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center in the Doctors Office Building, 66 N. Pauline St., Suite 501, Memphis, TN 38163. Covered parking is free.
  • Why should I participate in a clinical trial?

  • By participating in a clinical trial, you are helping researchers develop new interventions that may offer better care or treatment than what you would usually receive. People participate in clinical trials for different reasons, including access to new treatments before they are widely available by healthcare providers. Whatever your reasons, be sure that you make a voluntary and informed decision about your participation and that all of your questions regarding the study are answered before you decide to participate.
  • Will participation in this study cost anything?

  • NO. Your participation is 100% FREE.
  • Why are clinical trials important?

  • The information that is collected during a clinical trial can ultimately lead to the development of new medications or interventions that are more effective than those that have previously been tried.
  • I do not have a cancer, why do I have to be concerned about exercise and diet?

  • Living a healthy lifestyle is a lifelong goal. Everyone needs the benefit of a nutritious diet and physical activity. People who eat a poor quality diet and are inactive can be unhealthy and have an increased risk of developing cancer.
  • What is a clinical trial?

  • There are many kinds of clinical research studies, but generally speaking, a clinical trial is a research study with human beings where some type of health issue is studied and an intervention is offered.
